We started walking the 2 miles to Dead Veli in a major sandstorm. Dead Veli was formed when a river ran centuries ago and allowed the camel thorn trees to grow. When the river dried up, the trees died, They still stand as the dryness and heat of the desert, prevent them from rotting.
