The new village of Ahe. The entire island had been destroyed in 1883, 2 yearsago to a cyclone. The French government had supplied the building materials to rebuild all the homes and the mayor's office. Notice the solar powered street light at the mayor's office.

Instead of replacing the village's generator, the mayor decided to get everyone, solar panels for their electricity. Every house had 4 solar panels, a car battery to store the electricity, a plug for their getto blaster and one florecent light bulb. In effect, they had free electricity, as the sun shone every day!
